Laredo Travel Guide
Welcome to Laredo!
Laredo sits on the north bank of the Rio Grande, along the Mexican border. A quintessential border town, Laredo offers great shopping and food, ranging from street vendors to elegant restaurants. The medieval quarter, the Puebla Vieja, retains the traditional atmosphere of an old west town. Visitors can encounter historic gems such as Fort McIntosh, established in 1849 at the end of the Mexican War, and the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum, which is housed in a building dating from 1839. Barrio architecture throughout the city exhibits a blend of Mexican and American concepts in living. A great place to test out your bargaining skills is at Del Mar Shopping Plaza, a popular shopping destination. In February, Laredo puts on an extravagant fiesta to celebrate George Washington's Birthday. On the last Friday of April, the annual Battle of Flowers draws thousands of visitors to watch bloom-adorned floats in a parade.
